
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an organization created in 1957 within the United Nations family to work with its Member States worldwide for the pacific uses of nuclear technologies under safe and secure procedures.
The Director General of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano in his recent visit to Cuba on Friday 17th May talked about the advances taking place in the region through international collaboration and cooperation of experts of the region.
The IAEA will also explore the possibility of using nuclear techniques to fight a new pest attacking domestic animals affecting the economy of the Americas. Countries of the Caribbean will join in a IAEA’s project to apply the sterile insect technique (SIT) to control this pest known as the New World screwworm.
