Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year and it is the biggest killer in Europe, accounting for 4 million deaths per year.
In a regional effort to advance the prevention, diagnosis and management of diseases of the heart and blood vessels, every year in ESC congress gathers cardiovascular professionals presenting the results of new studies to better understand and control the highest risk of cardiovascular diseases, in order to treat and prevent premature death.
As in previous ESC Congress, another report on the multinational registry, the ROPAC III was presented by Dr Jollein W. Roos-Hesselink from Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, focussing on the risks of pregnancy and delivery in patients with heard diseases, particularly in women with aortic pathology or genetic predisposition. Among the 29 countries contributing to the multinational registry (ROPAC III) is Cuba, providing data of 122 cases, which represents the 11% of the cases in the study.

Dr Roman Vasallo Peraza, Cuban cardiologist* attending the ESC Congress in London is part of the Cuban team collaborating in the multinational registry ROPAC III (2018-2023). The Cuban National Programme for Pregnancy and heart diseases started more than 20 years ago evaluating the consequences of cardiac diseases during pregnancy and perinatal outcome.
