Cuban Academy of Sciences, 2021

ASCAST has translated the Declaration of Cuban Academy of Sciences reflecting the views of the community of Cuban scientists and academics supporting the Cuban Revolution and condemning the US Blockade.

The Cuban Academy of Sciences, on behalf of the scientific community of our country, reiterates its strongest support for the Cuban Revolution and repudiates the economic blockade, the media campaign against Cuba and the attempts at internal subversion, promoted and financed by the government of the United States of America.

Yankee imperialism, through a campaign to discredit our legitimate government, uses in a distorted way the serious situation caused by the pandemic and tries to orchestrate for Cuba the so-called humanitarian intervention that it has used against other countries where they have generated destabilisation of various kinds and blood baths.

To justify it, it [US government] is determined to provoke a social outbreak in Cuba using cynically the same negative economic effects that the intensified blockade provokes on Cuban people. But we know that this gross act of interference is part of the assembly to produce a “soft coup” against the government and achieve the dreamed of, but frustrated objective of dismantling the Cuban revolution.

In this context, Cuban scientists continue together to support our government in confronting COVID-19. We do it with the same ethics, dedication and willingness shown to stop this Pandemic from the beginning of it, which led to important scientific achievements with our own effort, among which the production of 5 vaccine candidates stands out that show high rates of efficacy, which has allowed Cuba today to have the first vaccine against COVID-19, from the area of ​​Latin America and the Caribbean. We also share the efforts made through development programs in favor of the well-being of the Cuban people, actively participating in many of them.

We are aware that the Cuban revolution is being unjustly attacked and we condemn the interventionist actions that the United States government and its minions promote. At the same time, we strongly repudiate the recent campaign to justify a humanitarian intervention in Cuba.

The Cuban Academy of Sciences endorses and supports the measures adopted by the Cuban government and legitimised by our people, to defend their independence, their sovereignty and the continuity of the construction of socialism.

With the certainty that we will defeat the pandemic and continue to develop the country, despite the blockade and external aggressions, we appreciate the expressions of understanding, solidarity and support from colleagues and friends around the world who know very well the efforts and achievements of Cuba in favor of a science for peace and for the welfare of humanity.
