BLACK LIVES MATTER in CSIM 2019

Remembrance of those atrocities is only a part of a long process that requires actions to be effective in eliminating racism in society. The BLACK LIVES MATTER has been a wakeup call reminding all of us that racism is alive and ramping through our societies. The response to the despicable atrocity of the killing George Floyd by the police of the United States of America in Minneapolis was global. The indignation and pain were visible in cities, towns, and communities all over, particularly the youth of all colours demanding changes and actions to eradicate the malady of racism forever. Our youth want to enjoy a fair society with no discrimination.  Statues of the Slavery’s Era were questioned and removed from their pedestals and even replaced for a new artwork claiming justice.

Academics and scientists as part of society have to play a role in their organizations to eradicate practices that researchers from non-white backgrounds find inadequate or not inclusive enough to improve their representation in science.

Leaders of the Crick Institute declared their commitment to act permanently on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion within the organization and through their links and engagement with our society.

The Wellcome Trust, another institution excelling in providing resources for researchers to thrive in their discoveries to solve the most challenging problems in health, is also ascribing their commitment. This is a permanent exercise open to creativity, from education and engagement of all society up to learning to make questions in science from a different lens.
